BGS Attorney to Present at Business Succession Seminar

Northeast Bank is sponsoring a seminar called “Succession Planning Strategies” on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 7:30-9:00 am. BGS Corporate and Business law attorney Daniel Ganter has been invited to participate and speak during this event. Dan will be speaking and answering questions about succession planning along with CPA Tim Kenyon of Cummings, Keegan & Co. PLLP. Dan and Tim will cover succession planning time line and process, as well as the role and importance of buy/sell agreements. The talk will help guide listeners in understanding how a business sale progresses and occurs to help secure the future of the business. Ganter has practiced corporate and business law for over 28 years. He has handled many buy-sell agreements over the course of his career. This is the third seminar he has participated in this year. He presented at a National Business Institute Seminar this past spring entitled: “Helping Your Client Buy or Sell a Small-to-Medium Sized Business.” Ganter also participated in a Minnesota Small Business Symposium called “Buy/Sell Techniques for Business” in January. The law firm of Barna, Guzy & Steffen Ltd. is proud to celebrate its 75th year of providing legal service for the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. The firm now known as Barna, Guzy & Steffen was founded by the Honorable Joseph E. Wargo, who graduated from the University of MN law school in 1938 and founded the law firm that same year. Wargo grew up in Columbia Heights and started his practice in that area. He was joined by Peter Barna in 1952 and by Robert Guzy in 1958. Wargo left the firm in 1968 to serve as a Judge for 11 years on the Anoka County Bench. Over the years, BGS has proudly advanced 11 of its attorneys to become judges in Anoka County. In 1990 the law firm merged its practice with Steffen Munstenteiger and the firm became known as Barna, Guzy & Steffen. Seventy five years of dedication and experience has helped fuel the firm’s growth and expanded practice areas. Starry, Starry Night Gala: September 21, 2013

Stable Pathways, a program that provides horse-assisted activities for people living with cognitive and physical challenges, is hosting a benefit gala for fundraising. BGS’ Legal Administrative Assistant Sarah Thies is on the Board of Directors and helped organize the event. Barna, Guzy & Steffen is also a sponsor of the event. The fundraiser will take place Saturday, September 21st, 2013 beginning at 6:30 with Cocktails. Food, a program demonstration, and dancing with live music will follow. This is a western themed event so the suggested dress is Cowboy Casual – Rhinestones Optional! Tickets to the event are $35 with proceeds going to promote Stable Pathways’ missions. Stable Pathways is located at Bunker Park Stables in Coon Rapids. It provides equine-assisted activities for people living with physical and cognitive challenges under the careful direction of either a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) International Certified Instructor or a Minnesota licensed Occupational Therapist. Sarah says that therapeutic horseback riding helps riders “organize” body and brain. The horse’s gait is most similar to a human gait so riding provides a connection to a natural rhythmic movement from the horse that stimulated the rider’s body and brain.
