Highland Friendship Club: Lanes for Friendship 2013

The Highland Friendship Club of St. Paul will hold its seventh annual Lanes for Friendship with Joe Mauer and other special guests at AMF Saxon Lanes in Little Canada on November 9, 2013. BGS Real Estate Attorney Angela Woessner is co-chair of the event. This event will benefit the Highland Friendship Club which is a 501 (c) non-profit. Started in 2002 by parents wanting to offer young adults with disabilities new opportunities for friendship and events, this group now serves more than 250 teens/young adults with disabilities. Lanes for Friendship fundraising event will offer these members a chance to meet and bowl with team sponsors and special guests. The rules regarding septic system regulation in Minnesota can be confusing and costly for those buying or selling property. Despite the amount of development and state and local governments’ best efforts to provide city sewer and water for most metropolitan areas, there remains mostly private septic systems in outstate and many areas of the metro. Septic systems are highly regulated by both state and local governments, as a faulty system poses both environmental and health concerns. Septic systems are essentially an on-site wastewater management system in areas with no public sewer system. Due to the widespread use of septic tanks in both residential and commercial areas, understanding the regulation of septic systems in Minnesota is crucial to ensure compliance with the law and to fully protect those who are buying and selling property or those using such a system. Leasing Basics for Minnesota Charter Schools

These materials are intended to provide a basic overview of some of the most important provisions likely to be found in a charter school lease. Leasing Guidelines Specific to Charter Schools Because charter schools may not use state money to purchase land or buildings (Minn. Stat. § 124D.11, Subd. 7), gaining an understanding of basic leasing concepts is important. In addition to the general education revenue provided to charter schools, charter schools may be entitled to additional public funding through building lease aid. Under Minnesota law, charter schools may apply for building lease aid in order to rent a building or land for instructional purposes. Minn. Stat. § 124D.11, Subd. 4. The Minnesota Department of Education reviews and either approves or denies a applications for lease aid using certain criteria specified by statute. These criteria include (1) the reasonableness of the price (the rent) based on current market values, (2) the extent to which the lease conforms to applicable state laws and rules, and (3) the appropriateness of the proposed lease in the context of the space needs and the financial circumstances of the charter school.
