Shareholders at Barna, Guzy & Steffen Elect New President at Annual Meeting

The law firm of Barna, Guzy & Steffen held its annual meeting on March 29, 2014 in Coon Rapids, MN. The meeting included a gathering of the Board of Directors, a State of the Firm given by Jeffrey S. Johnson and reports from the Practice Group Managers. After twenty-four years as President, Jeffrey S. Johnson decided not to seek another term. The shareholders at Barna, Guzy & Steffen elected a new firm President, William F. Huefner . Bill is a Shareholder who focuses his practice on Estate Planning. He joined the firm in 1991 as a Law Clerk while attending law school at Hamline University. Upon completion of law school and admittance to the Bar in 1993, Bill was hired as an associate in the firm’s Litigation department. Prior to attending law school Bill was a CPA who worked in the banking industry as well as working for five years with the Internal Revenue Service. The Board of Directors re-elected Jeffrey S. Johnson as Chairman of the Board; Charles M. Seykora was re-elected as Treasurer, and current Board member Bradley A. Kletscher was elected to serve as Secretary. Scott Lepak to Present at Upcoming Minnesota CLE Conference

BGS Government & Employment Law Attorney Scott Lepak will be presenting at an upcoming Minnesota CLE Conference. The conference, titled Public Sector Labor & Employment Law will take place on Friday, February 28th at Minnesota CLE Conference Center, 600 Nicollet Mall, Suite 370, Third Floor City Center, Minneapolis. The event is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. (with a continental breakfast) to 4:30 p.m. There will be lunch break from Noon-1p.m. (lunch is not included with the seminar). Scott will speak to attendees at 9:45 a.m. regarding The Minnesota Whistleblower Act Amendments. He is co-presenting with attorney Cristina Parra of Nichols Kaster, PLLP; Minneapolis. BGS Supports Scholarship at Anoka Ramsey Community College

One of the ways in which our firm has given back over the years is the continued support of the Bernie and Natalie Steffen Scholarship at Anoka Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids Campus. Real Estate Attorney /Shareholder Kristi Riley currently serves on ARCC’s Board of Directors Coon Rapids Foundation. Last spring, the Steffen scholarship was awarded to Ms. Kelly Olson. Kelly was recently asked about the impact of this scholarship and said, “This scholarship has been very beneficial because, first of all, it is helping me stay out of debt and it also helps me stay motivated to do well in my classes.
